Update from the G7 Summit in Cornwall: Our Ship is In!

Europa Silja docked in Falmouth for G7 Summit

By Joyce Landry

Reporting from Cornwall, England…The G7 is underway and our ship has come in!  We just finished boarding 1,000 officers of the Devon & Cornwall Police aboard the cruise ferry Silja Europa.

Covid protocols include single occupancy of cabins, testing daily for all occupants of the ship, signage indicating one-way routes on board, mandatory mask-wearing, and each team is in a pre-designated Covid “bubble” of 6 people.  Each team works together, dines together, and boards/departs the ship together.

After three days, we can see that the system works – we’re all healthy and safe and providing critically needed accommodations for this rural community that was chosen to host world leaders for the G7 Summit.  My colleague, Kelly Battles, and I are here for the duration, so stay tuned for more updates…

By the way, accommodations are so tight here in Cornwall (it’s peak season even without the G7). Silja Europa has been a godsend and it’s a cost-effective solution.
