Safe River Cruising and Peace of Mind Assured

Ready for a safe and healthy travel escape? Why not discover Europe while sailing peacefully down one of its calm rivers or waterways on a privately chartered boutique-style ship?  Amadeus River ships have been cruising safely and successfully in Europe since July and have already achieved proof of concept by keeping all passengers healthy. With the help of an epidemiologist and following available guidelines of the European Commission, they’ve implemented advanced health & safety measures for your peace of mind.

The small size of Amadeus’ premium river vessels (140 to 168 passengers), allows them to sail right into the heart of storied European cities and picturesque towns. With remarkably attractive charter rates, they are perfected suited for a family reunion, milestone event, or rejuvenating retreat. And with just your group onboard the ship, you’ll have the full attention of the gracious European staff.

My Amadeus Queen River Cruise Experience

Last Spring  (pre-Covid), my staff and I were invited to sail on Amadeus Queen during an exclusive 4-night familiarization cruise. Traveling through the scenic waterways of Holland and Belgium during peak “tulip time” was a magical experience!

Amadeus gave us a wonderful exposure to the cultures and cuisines of the ports we visited. We walked through the streets of Antwerp, Belgium; toured the dynamic city of Rotterdam, Holland; and spent two delightful days in Amsterdam.

We enjoyed an upscale boutique hotel experience with first-class amenities, exquisite cuisine, gracious European hospitality, and a relaxed ambiance – not to mention stunning views of passing scenery. Most of the 69 Amadeus Queen staterooms have panoramic drop-down windows and French balconies, and the 12 suites feature walk-out balconies.

One of the ship’s unique features is the indoor pool with a retractable roof. Other highlights include a large sun deck and the Panorama-Bar with 360-degree views of the river landscapes.

The food is fresh and locally-sourced, with free-flowing regional wines included with meals. Read more: A Tale of Two Rivers – My European River Cruises.

River Cruising Reimagined

Cruise lines, including Amadeus, have always had strict hygiene standards and clear processes in place to ensure safe travel for all passengers. But due to the current Coronavirus pandemic, new regulations and procedures have been established and are being implemented to protect passengers, crew, and the places they visit.

A few of the new Amadeus Health & Safety Protocols include:

  • Pre-cruise Health Questionnaires required for all passengers and crew
  • Contactless body temperature check before embarking
  • Public areas modified to ensure social distancing of 1.50 meters (5 ft)
  • Face masks required in public areas when social distancing not possible
  • Hand sanitizing points installed throughout the ship
  • Medical-grade cleaning and disinfecting products used onboard
  • Fresh air ventilation throughout the ship
  • Wireless audio guides during excursions to guarantee social distancing

Updates from the River: Q & A with Amadeus in Austria

What is it like going into the ports?  How restricted is it?

During the past cruises in the summer and fall, the ports on our itineraries had not been really affected by restrictions noticeable to our passengers, so we were able to offer all our planned excursions. Passengers would wear masks on the excursion bus and would follow the social distancing rules.

We understand there are fewer boats on the river – How does that affect the cruise experience?

The fact that fewer boats are on the river have been beneficial as this means less traffic on the river and in the locks which can cause traffic jams and delays. Since there is less traffic, there are fewer ships in ports, making it much easier for passengers to get from and to their vessel.

Can you share some of the feedback you hear from passengers during this time?

The feedback of our passengers have been overwhelmingly positive. Our guests have appreciated the great effort from our crew to ensure a safe yet memorable cruise experience on board the AMADEUS fleet.

Why should people consider river cruising right now?

Amadeus River Cruise Europe

River Cruising in Europe offers great benefits, especially in these times: We see as a distinct advantage that river cruise ship operators always had strict hygiene standards in place and clear processes prepared, even before the current Coronavirus pandemic. Our health and safety concept onboard has been proven very effective as it not only keeps passengers and crew safe but also allows for a premium holiday experience for all guests.
