Theme and special interest cruises are more popular than ever, as event planners and producers discover that ships are the perfect venue to bring like-minded people together. Here’s an example of a recent special interest cruise Landry & Kling helped produce – and the results were nothing less than phenomenal!
On July 10, Landry & Kling’s Cruise Events Manager Nicola Rowan joined Event Producer Kathryn Arnold and 106 Grapplers from around the world aboard the Carnival Dream for the 2016 “Grappler’s Escape” Cruise. The excitement was palpable as the ship sailed from New Orleans destined for three tropical Caribbean ports: Mahogany Bay in Roatan; Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Sea
Along with plenty of fun and sun during the 7-night cruise, the Grapplers were treated to world class Jiu Jitsu training. The agenda included over 30 hours of instruction and training led by the legendary Master Pedro Sauer, an 8th degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coral belt who is revered as one of the pioneers of the gentle art in the United States.
One of the highlights of any special interest cruise is the opportunity to meet others who share a common passion. During the Grappler’s Escape Cruise, the group had a chance to meet and bond with each other during the opening and closing ceremonies, and mingled with the instructors during two hosted cocktail parties.
So was the Grappler’s Escape Cruise a success? According to Kathryn:
The feedback from the guests has been extraordinary at every level. The “thank yous” keep coming in and the social media buzz is still happening. This group will stay connected for life…I’m sure of that.
Kathryn also took the time to acknowledge Nicola and the Landry & Kling team:
As a producer, to have such a solid team behind me, gives me confidence to continue to build this company… I would like to give a special thanks to Nicola for all her efforts, attention to detail and of course for being such a fun partner on the cruise. We had a blast and your behind the scenes work made all the difference in the world.
Thank you, Kathryn. It would be our pleasure to sail with you and the Grapplers again!
