SILVERSEA ANNOUNCES NEW SHIP PLANS
Ultra-luxury operator Silversea Cruises has committed to build one new 270-room ultra-luxury vessel with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, with an option for a second “sister” ship. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2009. The new ship is 36,000 gross registered tons, about twice as big as Silversea’s original 148-room “floating resorts”. With this one newbuild, Silversea's present 4-ship fleet capacity will increase 40%.
This new ship order reflects the growing demand for luxury cruising – often the choice for top level incentive meetings or professional retreats-- so Silversea will be well positioned to fully meet future expansion of the meetings industry with their latest ship designs.
Silversea Cruises is recognized as an innovator in the luxury market, offering guests large-ship amenities aboard four intimate vessels, Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow, and Silver Whisper, all designed to offer an atmosphere of conviviality and casual elegance. For many years, Silversea has been named "Number One" small-ship line in the "Readers' Choice" survey conducted by Condé Nast Traveler magazine, and "World's Best" small-ship line in many Travel + Leisure readers' polls.
